Tell Us Once
When you register a death, you will be asked if you'd like to use the Tell Us Once service.
This is a free service that allows us to tell central government and Council departments that the death has happened:
Central government:
- Passport office
- Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
- War pensions scheme
- Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
- HM Revenue and Customs
- Public sector pensions
Council departments:
- Adult social care
- Blue Badges
- housing
- Council Tax
- Council Tax support
- electoral services
- library services
If you'd like to use the service, it would be helpful to bring documents about any benefits and service the deceased was receiving, including:
- passport
- driving licence
- National Insurance number of the deceased & any surviving spouse
- Blue Badge
If you can't find the information or documents before the appointment, don't worry - you'll be able to use the service by telephone later. The registrar will you a unique reference number and the number to call.
We'll treat all information securely - the departments we share your information with will use it to update their records, but only as the law allows.
