Births

Apply for a copy birth certificate

We can only provide a copy birth certificate if the person was born in Rutland.

To find an entry, we will need:

  • the person's full name
  • the date and place of birth
  • the full names of the person's parents

We can issue as many certified copies as you need & offer two certificate services:

Standard Service: £12.50 per copy.  Certificates are processed within 15 working days.

Priority Service: £38.50 per copy.  Certificates are processed on or before next working day, where payment is received by 3pm.

If the birth happened outside Rutland, you'll need to contact the council for that area. If you don't know which district they were born in, you can apply to the General Register Office.

How to order

Please email us with the details above: registrars@rutland.gov.uk. We will then provide a link & reference number for you to make payment online.

Alternatively, you can call us on 01572 758 370 and we'll take the details, and debit/credit card payment, over the phone - you may need to leave us a voicemail, but we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Births registered before 1837

Civil registration started on 1 July 1837. Before this, records of births, deaths and marriages were kept by the church.
