Your black bin is for household waste that can't be recycled in your grey bin or taken to a household waste and recycling centre.
Check our Waste and recycling A to Z if you're not sure which bin to put a particular item in.
Please do not overfill you bin or cram the rubbish in - this makes it difficult to empty the bin properly. Your bin lid should be closed flat. Bins that are too heavy to move safely, contain garden waste or building materials will not be collected.
We'll only collect waste that's inside the bin - no waste left by your bin will be collected.
Black bin waste we collect is taken to the Eastcroft Waste to Energy facility in Nottingham.
Items you can put in your black bin:
- ash (when cool)
- black plastic
- bubble wrap
- disposable nappies
- kitchen and food waste
- pet waste and bedding
- plant pots and trays
- polystyrene packaging
Items that are not accepted, as they may damage your bin:
- bricks
- concrete
- gravel
- hot ashes
- sand
- stone
Collection
Your bin must be put out for collection at your property boundary by 6.30am on your collection day.
You must move your bin back to its usual storage place by the end of the collection day, as it may obstruct the road and look untidy.
Request an extra black bin
If you have five or more people living in your home, you can ask for an extra black bin through MyAccount. You'll need to provide evidence of how many people live with you.
