Assessing your care and support needs

Advocacy

We must make sure that you're supported to fully take part in your assessment.

If you're finding it difficult to take part, your assessor will work with you find a way to better support you. This could mean:

  • making the information easier to understand
  • bringing in an interpreter

If you find it too hard to understand the process or communicate your wishes, we'll make sure you have an appropriate person there to help you - this could be:

  • a carer, friend or relative
  • an independent advocate

You can choose who supports you, but if you don't have the ability to give consent, we must be sure that it's in your best interests to be represented by that person. It's our responsibility to let your friends and family know this decision.
