Real Nappies
Why use Real Nappies?
Modern real nappies are stylish, cost effective, absorbent and reduce the amount of waste you produce and send to landfill.
They can save you money
By the time your baby is potty trained you could use 4,000 to 6,000 disposable nappies. This will cost a minimum of £488 and maybe as much as £732. By comparison you only need from 25-30 real nappies costing as little as £185 including the washing.
You can help reduce rubbish going to landfill
8 million disposable nappies are thrown away every day in the UK, but we pay a high price for this convenience. Each year in the UK, a million tonnes of disposable nappies end up in landfill sites at a cost to the nation of £40 million. In addition to the cost of didposing of the nappies landfill sites produce methane and other gases that contribute to global warming.
They are easy to use
There's not a safety pin in sight with Real Nappies, so they're simple to use. They come in lots of modern and funky styles that fasten easily with poppers, Velcro or nifty plastic grips so the nappy fits your baby snugly.
Home washing is a breeze
No soaking or boiling, modern washing machines wash so well that real nappies do not need to be pre-soaked or boiled. By home laundering you can help reduce the environmental impact of nappies. Use energy efficient washing machines and line dry wherever possible.
There are lots of funky styles to choose from
There is a huge range of modern Real Nappies available. The modern designs are slightly more expensive to use than the traditional towelling nappies but still much cheaper than disposables in the long run.
We have a Real Nappy Trial Kit available for parents to borrow so they can see first hand the different types and styles of nappies available.
If you would like to borrow the kit or for more information on Real Nappies, contact Rutland County Council on 01572 722577 or email enquiries@rutland.gov.uk.
