Travel Aid Scheme
Who can apply for the Travel Aid Scheme?
The pass is for people who are resident in Rutland and registered unemployed (signing on at an Employment Service Jobcentre), to help them seek work. It is not for their dependants.
How does the scheme work?
You apply for a pass, which lasts 4 weeks. The pass entitles you to travel by bus, at half the normal adult single or return fare. Every time you travel you must show your identity card with your half fare travel pass. The photocard is issued free and lasts indefinitely but you must supply a passport-sized photograph of yourself for it.
What services can the pass be used on?
You can use your pass on all local bus services beginning in Rutland.
How can I get a pass?
1) You will need to complete and sign the application form.
2) Prove that you are unemployed AND actively seeking work.
3) When form is complete, you need to go to the Council Offices with the completed form and photograph (or photocard if you have one from a previous application). You must do this within 2 weeks of the date stamp.
How do I prove my entitlement?
(A) If you sign-on at an Employment Service Jobcentre the application form will need to be signed and stamped at your signing point.
(B) If you sign-on quarterly YOU MUST STILL RENEW YOUR PASS EVERY 28 DAYS. Post the leaflet to your normal jobcentre for stamping. You must enclose a stamped addressed envelope and a note asking the office to stamp and send the form back to you.
(C) If you sign-on by post include the leaflet and a stamped addressed envelope with your next claim, requesting that the form be stamped and posted back to you.
(D) If you are unemployed and aged between 60-64 years, and your National Insurance is automatically credited because you no longer sign-on, you will not need to have your form stamped. When you go to the Council Offices with your completed form, and a photo (or photocard) take EITHER your department of Social Security pension or allowance book together with proof of age (eg. Birth certificate) OR your department of Employment form CR8.
Remember that men and women aged 60 and over are entitled to claim reduced travel through the Freedom travel scheme. Contact the Customer Services Centre for details – 01572 722577.
How do I renew my pass?
Simply follow the above procedures using a fresh application form each month. You may renew your pass before the expiry date. Any unused days (up to a maximum of 7) will be added to the validity period of your new pass. You must present your photocard (unless providing a photograph for a new photocard) and surrender your old pass.
What happens if I get a job?
You must return your pass to Rutland County Council at the address below (with a note stating that you have gained employment). You may retain your photocard.
