Rutland Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board
'Healthy Lives, Healthy People: Our strategy for public health in England’ sets out the Government's long-term vision for the future of public health in England.
Local public health leadership, and responsibility, will be returned to local government. Health and well-being boards, based in local authorities, will provide a forum to bring together NHS commissioners, councils and elected councillors with patient champions, to join up the public health agenda with the wider work of the NHS, social care and children's services (Department of Health, 2010).

What is the Rutland Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board?
A Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board for Rutland has been set up in preparation for a Health and Wellbeing Board becoming a formal committee of Rutland County Council in 2013, this is at the request of central government.
This Board will act as an advisory body to:
- Rutland County Council
- NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland
- The East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group (GPs)
Advice will be in relation to the spending and service priorities of these bodies.
The main aim of a Health and Wellbeing Board is to:
- Promote joint working between the NHS, social care, public health and other local services
- Improve local democratic accountability (the voice of local people)
As of 2012, Rutland will be holding its Shadow Health and Wellbeing Board meetings in public; our first meeting is being held on Tuesday 31st January 2012 at 2pm in the Council Chamber at Rutland County Council Offices in Oakham.
