Local Studies Area

The Local Studies Library is open whenever the Museum is open.  You are welcome to drop in, but we recommend making an appointment, particularly if you would like to use the microfiche or see any original maps.

 

Please Note : The Study Room and microfiche will not be available for private research on Saturday 15th October. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

 

Collections available include:

  • Photographs of Rutland towns and villagesLocal Studies Room
  • Maps of Rutland (our oldest maps are only available by appointment)
  • Microfiche of births, deaths and marriages in Rutland (not all years are available)
  • The Jack Hart postcard collection. (by appointment only)
  • Books from the museum library.
  • We now have much of the  Local Studies Collection which was previously held at Oakham Library.

Please Note: You can gain access to Ancestry on the three public computers in the Museum. If you specifically want to access Ancestry, please do call to confirm availability before you make a special journey. It is also available at all Rutland County Council Libraries.
