Plastic Recycling at Co-op OakhamPublished:Thursday 4 August 2005
Rutland County Council would like to apologise to anyone who tried to use the plastic recycling collection banks at Co-op Oakham earlier this week (w/c Monday 1 August).
Due to an exceptionally high usage over the weekend of the 30/31 July the containers were at capacity before the scheduled collection day.
Director of Environmental Services, Phil Trow, says, “We saw an unusually high quantity of material being put into the recycling banks over the weekend and this led to them being full much sooner than they normally are. A result of this was that people who visited the site at the beginning of this week found the banks were full and may have had to take their plastic recycling home with them. It’s good news that so many people are now using the local recycling facilities and we want to encourage more people to do so.”
Mr. Trow added, “I would like to apologise for any inconvenience that might have been caused but would like to reassure everyone that we arranged with our contractor for the banks to be emptied as soon as possible and we are also looking at what the contractor can do to empty the banks more often.”
Rutland County Council is also looking to increase the capacity at the site by bringing in larger recycling banks for recycling materials.
When residents find that a bank is full, we would urge them to contact Rutland County Council Customer Services on 01572 722 577 and so the Council can try and arrange an early collection wherever possible.
The recycling site at Co-op (Oakham) is the most popular site in Rutland due to its convenient location and we monitor the banks there (as we do for every other site in Rutland) to try and find the most appropriate collection schedule. Residents are urged to note that the plastic recycling facilities are to be used for plastic bottles and plastic containers only. We cannot accept yoghurt cartons, plastic bags and margarine tubs.
