Rutland County Museum and Visitor Centre
| Collections Image by D J Bannister (c) The Museum's original collections were those transferred to it when it was set up by the former Rutland County Council in 1967. These were the rural life collection of Mr E G Bolton from Casterton Secondary Modern School and the mainly archaeological collection from Oakham School.
The Museum now has an extensive rural life collection which includes farm tools, tractors, wagons and a wide range of rural tradesmen's tools.
Domestic and social history material is also on display
along with a large collection of archaeological material found within Rutland.
Braunston - Jack Hart Collection Study Area The Museum holds a collection of local research books which are available to view within the Study Area. Also available to view within this area is a large collection of photographs for Rutland, birth death and marriage registers on microfiche and Ordnance Survey maps for 1904.
The museum is home to the Jack Hart collection of Rutland postcards. This collection of over 3000 postcards of Rutland from the late 19th and early 20th century is available to view by appointment. |
