Rutland students are one step closer to having high quality Post-16 education available in Oakham from September 2010 following a council decision taken this week (Monday 8 March 2010).

Councillors met to discuss the recent ‘Rutland County College’ consultation process and to analyse expert opinion on a number of options suggested in recent months.

Councillor Heather Wells, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services commented: 'Those who attended the meeting in the Council Chamber have seen a detailed and well informed debate taking place with valuable contributions from those who submitted deputations, the expert advice within the report, and the debate between elected members. It is clear that Councillors have given this matter careful consideration and that all of the evidence presented has been carefully scrutinised".

Councillor Wells added, 'I am obviously delighted that Councillors have supported this proposal and I am confident that Rutland County College will deliver excellent education for students. Finance and organisation arrangements are clearly important, but it is vital that we do not lose focus on the number one priority – providing high quality education for many generations of Rutland students'.

Councillor Wells also had these words for prospective students 'We’ve seen a really good response already from students interested in starting at Rutland County College this September. The prospectus is available to download from www.rutlandcountycollege.info and I hope that this council endorsement of the plans will encourage even more'.
