Rutland Children and Young People's Services

In July 2005 Rutland Local Education Authority and Social Services for Children and Families joined together to become the new Children and Young People's Services directorate. I am proud to have been appointed as Director.

The work of the directorate is guided and supported by the Rutland Children's Trust which is responsible for overseeing the strategic development of services for children and young people in Rutland. Its members are drawn from a wide range of statutory, non-statutory and voluntary organisations. The Children's Trust works in co-operation with the Local Strategic Partnership (Rutland Together ) and by working in partnership we can make a real difference for communities in Rutland.

Rutland Children and Young People's Services, through the Children's Trust, is responsible for the development of a Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP). This is a single, strategic, overarching plan for all services affecting children and young people. It replaces many of the current plans and will ensure that partners work together to improve outcomes for children and young people in Rutland.

In Rutland we believe that childhood and growing up is a crucial time in the lives of our children and young people. Our children are our future and we want to secure improved outcomes for all children and young people. We want to ensure that they are able to reach their own goals and potential, thus growing into confident and fulfilled adults in the future.

At the heart of our plan is the following vision of what we want to for our children.

Rutland - Where Childhood Matters

Children and young people in Rutland will develop and grow in surroundings that offer them the opportunities they need to:

  • Enjoy good physical health and emotional well-being.
  • Be protected from harm and neglect.
  • Develop independence.
  • Achieve success and develop life skills for a creative and positive future.
  • Decide on the contribution that they wish to make to their local community and the wider world.
  • Build their ambitions and make the most of their lives.
